Chapter Fourteen

“See, I’ve been thinking… About all this dating carry-on.”

Brodie’s interest was a tiny bit piqued.

“Oh?”

“Aye. I have. And I’ve concluded that what you need, Brodie McColl, is a frame of reference.”

Brodie rolled her eyes. “Nope. No, I don’t–”

Jamie put up a hand.

“Hear me out. Hear me out.”

Brodie narrowed her eyes at him. “Okay,” she said. “Go on.”

“Aye. It just seems to me,” Jamie began, “that so pitiful have been these dates, so… so… woeful have been these encounters? Well. You might very well stand to benefit from… a frame of reference, if you will.”

“A frame of reference,” Brodie deadpanned.

“Aye,” said Jamie. “A benchmark, of sorts.”

Brodie drew her brows together.

“A benchmark.”

Jamie flashed her a grin, and his eyes crinkled handsomely at the corners. “A benchmark. Aye. Now, I might be avowedly out of this game… But, that doesn’t mean I can’t… weigh in, somehow. Does it?”

Brodie didn’t answer.

Brodie wasn’t at all sure this sounded like a good idea.

“Makes sense, right?” said Jamie.

“Jamie–”

He cut her off. “Brodie, I think you’re getting sold short,” he said. “And, well, I don’t like to see that. And, if you’ll let me, I’d like to show you how it should be done.”
